Fathers & Sons Weekend

One of the boys favorite things to do is go camping with their dad.  They count down the days until Father's  & Son's Campout each year.  There is great anticipation every year for the Father's & Son's location.  This year we attended the Allen's cabin, located near Oakley, Idaho.  It was a perfect weekend! Weather was outstanding, there was a creek nearby for the boys to get soaked, and lots of good food and treats!
We set up our tent nearby the roaring creek.  The soothing sound of the water put us all to sleep quickly.
Nearby mountain tops still snow-capped and beautiful.  The weather threatened to storm, but it didn't.  It rained slightly Saturday morning, just enough for a dust control.

Friday evening the boys have to go exploring.  This is typical of them.  There is great anticipation for what will be discovered.  This year we found some bottle caps, stink bugs, ants, ants and more ants.  Unfortunately, no snakes - ugh!
For dinner we had hamburgers, hotdogs, potato salad, doritos (can't just eat a few), cowboy beans, and peach cobbler for desert.  There was a ton of food because we didn't have the amount of people come as expected.  Just meant that we had to eat MORE!

Mason is intrigued with fire.  He helped Bro. Knowlton start the fire that we enjoyed Friday evening for the fireside. We roasted marshmallows and had Smores.  What campout isn't complete unless you devour a few Smores!  I (Matt) can't eat them.  They are way too sweet. But I don't mind eating the chocolate!

Part of the Saturday activity involved B-B Gun shooting and motorcycle riding.  I was so involved with the B-B Guns that I didn't take any pictures.  Mason loves to aim in a general direction and pull the trigger.  It doesn't matter if he hits the target or not.  All you have to say is "Good Job! Do you want to try again?" Carter, on the other hand, takes his time...mounts the gun on a nearby tree, rock or ground, breathes deeply to relax, aims, and FIRES!  He rarely misses and loves shooting the targets - whatever they may be.  This is the first time to ride a motorcycle.  It took some time getting use to, but Carter got the hang of it.  Mason, didn't know when to let go of the throttle and just about ran into a truck -WHEW!!

Another year complete with Father's & Son's.  The purpose of the campout is to commemorate the restoration of the priesthood.  What a blessing it is to have the priesthood restored to the earth these latter days to build the Kingdom of God and serve our fellowman.  It was a pleasure (as always) to be with my sons and I look forward to next year's event!

Love Dad!
