6 Quirks about Me
1.) Crooked pictures on walls drive me CRAZY! I have an eye for leveling and when things are not level, I go in sane. Matt, on several occassions, has hung chair rail on bedroom walls and on several occassions I have walked into the room and told him that it is crooked. He tells me that his level says it is level, but I tell him that he has to rip it off because it will drive me crazy every time I walk into the room. He now knows that I will not back down and frustratedly takes it down to redo it. Poor guy...I really put him through a lot.
2.) I have this really annoying counting thing that I do with my fingers. Usually I don't know that I am doing it because it has become such a part of me. Someone asked me what I was doing the other day and I had no idea what they were talking about until they pointed it out.
3.) I am an extremely organized person (although it doesn't seem like it with 4 kids disorganizing me) and I have to have all my dresser drawers neat and tidy. I even cleaned out Matt's "junk drawer" that I swore I wasn't going to clean again because he needed one space that was "his" and he kept messing it up. This morning after looking in his drawer, he said "That's why I married you because you can take something as chaotic and disorganized as me and refine it."
4.) My daughter Chloe has a very small bladder so we have been in every restroom of every store. When we find ourselves alone and there is good music playing, we love to dance around and shake a rug. :) If the music is really good, we will just dance in the stall so nobody can see us. :)
5.) I prefer to not wear shoes in the house. I also prefer not to walk on dirty floors. Since I am not able to keep the floor spotless these days, I wear socks or flipflops so I can't feel the grime. When I start to stick I know it is time to mop. :)
6.) I am an early bird. I like to get up early. The problem comes when I like to be a night owl too. I love the peace of the morning and the late nights...so I am usually exhausted, because I can't be both.
There you have it. Those are the tip of the iceberg on my quirky quirks! So, now I tag:
1.) Danielle
2.) Becky
3.) Julie
4.) Kristi
5.) Sara
6.) Memaw

ABQ Balloon Fiesta 2008
http://www.itsatrip.org/albuquerque/ballooning-capital/balloon-fiesta/default.aspx
It was an amazing experience. There were supposed to be over 6oo hot air balloons launched at this mornings "Mass Ascension." As we got on the bus, with all 6 kids, we realized that there weren't any other kids on the whole bus. We were seated in the very back of the bus. It was dark outside and after the bus pulled forward to begin our ride...Matt starts singing "The Wheels on the Bus" and his voice is never a whisper. We all laughed and some other people thought it was funny. There were a lot of old people on the bus, and I am not sure they found it as humorous. Oh well. It was a great pick-me up, or wake-me up for the morning. :)
Once we got to the field where the balloons take off, we found a spot to sit down in the dark and eat our breakfast burritos that Matt made for us. There were vendors everwhere...I guess there had to be because I think there were over a million people there. I have never seen that many people in one place--ever. There were probably more people at Disneyland, but you don't see them all at once. It was a little overwhelming, but it helped me realize what a neat event we were attending. The ABQ Balloon Festival is known as the "International Balloon Fiesta because it is the world's largest hot air ballooning event. It is also said that it is the world's most photographed event. So, that being said...I went ahead and made this blog post a slideshow because we literally have hundreds of photos. It is hard to pick and choose which ones to talk about, so just sit back, and let the pictures excite you to want to come another year for a visit.
At one moment during the festival, I was happy to think that in a hurting economy, there were still thousands of people getting out to enjoy a breath taking experience. The vendors were not chanting "peanuts, popcorn," they were instead chanting "cameras, batteries." It was lots of fun. Hope to make this a tradition every year. Most of all, we hope that we don't have to experience this alone every year...we want family and friends to take an opportunity to come and share it with us. So, who's turn is it next year? We are booking our calendars early! :) Love to all! Thanks Mike and Kristi for sharing in this great experience!
Here come the Kear's...
We tried to have a little picnic in a couple different spots. We quickly realized that we had a very "sweet" bunch because there were lots of bumble bees following us around. They wouldn't leave us alone, even after we loaded up and moved to a different location. They were everywhere. It was crazy. They didn't seem to bother Matt, until we were all right next to him. Even Chloe ended up throwing her sandwich, when a bee tried to take a bite. She didn't think that was very funny. Anyway, we eventually gave up and ate our sandwiches in the Suburban while we drove back to the tunnels.
A very happy girl, with a beautiful smiling face!
Four kids that could pass as siblings.
We have 5 avid rock climbers in this shot.
When we returned home that evening, we had lots of fun talking, eating pizza, playing with the rabbits and chasing one of them around the yard. We also had a fun movie night relaxing and watching movies. It was nice "hanging out" with Mike and Kristi...we haven't done that in so long.
The next morning, we got up bright and early to go to the kids school for the "Balloons Aloft" to bring in the Balloon Festival 2008. We were in Rio Rancho at Cielo Azul Elementary School and it was freezing cold. There was a cold breeze and the kids were nice and chilled. Kaitlyn and Chloe borrowed Matt's vest to help them keep warm. Cute girls...they get along so well. Kaitlyn is like a big sister to Chloe. Josie is peeking out her warm blanket.
Carter was freezing and he is not a happy camper when he is cold. He was born with Arizona blood and I wonder how long it will take him to climatize to the cold.
Chloe has a little thicker blood and knows how to move around to keep herself warm.
Mason wasn't feeling really good over the weekend, but he was a pretty happy camper. :)
This is the balloon that FINALLY showed up. We were there about 6:15 when they told us to be there for the lift off...and when we got there, there was no signs of a hot air balloon. As we were getting ready to leave and go to another school, the truck finally showed up and we decided to stay. It was fun to watch from close up and feel the heat of the flame. That helped warm up our freezing appendages.
After waiting for the school balloon to lift off, which it never did, we realized our hunger and drove on to find something to eat. We ended up at IHOP and remembered why we don't go there very often. They stuck all 10 of us in a back corner, crowded around 3 tiny tables and left us there. We didn't have any menus, and there was no sign of help coming our way. Eventually we were able to order some "patience" thanks Kristi, and get some food. Mason kept us on our toes all morning long because he didn't feel like sitting still. Thank goodness for Matt, Mike and Kristi finding lots of "hidden games" in the kids menu. When we returned home for the day, the kids played outside most of the day riding bikes, scooters, and playing kid games. Chloe and Kaitlyn of course never tired of dressing up like princesses. Here is a picture of the 3 princesses.
Kaitlyn was a great help with Josie. I don't think Kaitlyn would ever tire of playing and helping the 2 little ones. She will be a great babysitter. She is such a sweetheart. We also realized that she and Josie look quite a bit alike.
That evening we splurged and went out to a fun New Mexican Restaurant called El Pinto. It is lots of fun and a great atmosphere. We were haunted by bees there also towards the end of our meal when we opened the honey to eat with our sopapillas. Go figure...we saw the "Bee Movie" and know that bees get irritated when they see us humans eating their honey. We don't appreciate the hard work that goes into making it! :) Ayway, we went early and beat the very busy rush that came as we were leaving. It was another fun time spent together. Mike and Kristi's family, minus Justin (we missed seeing you Justin! Hope we can see you next time.)
These are some hot and spicy kids just like the salsa.
Our little family next to a ginormous bottle of salsa.
Again we had a great time with Mike, Kristi, Kaitlyn and Michael. It was fun having them for a visit and the kids had so much fun playing together. Chloe was the first to start the tears as they left. She is so sweet and sensitive. She is usually the first to remind us how much we miss our family and wish we were closer. She and Carter both told us that we need to move back to Arizona because they miss their cousins and friends.
Thanks for coming and we hope to see you again soon! Love you all.
