Carter's First Sword

Before Matt and I had kids, we just knew we had things figured out about how to be great parents. Well, when we brought Carter home from the hospital, every ounce of knowledge we had, somehow flew out the window on the way home. We realized that we knew nothing about kids and that they are absolutely unpredictable. We still wonder if and when any of that great knowledge will ever come back to us. (If any of you out there still have things figured out, please let us know what we are doing wrong!)

One thing we were sure about was that our kids were going to be well behaved and mild mannered children. They would always listen and do what they were told, just because they were naturally obedient children. We didn't want to have weapons for the kids to play with because that just might promote violence in our home.

Well, like I said earlier, all of these great hopes, were merely just that. Carter was born a warrior. We didn't have any swords in our home for him to play with, so anything that he touched automatically became a sword. Carter loved to play with toy animals and especially dinosaurs...so I specifically remember one of his first and soon to be favorite swords in the house...
This poor little dinosaur eventually had his hind feet bitten off, but his tail made a nice and perfectly straight sword for Carter's warrior practice. We tried to stop his warrior-ness, but realized that it was a lost cause and decided to just buy him a sword so that this poor little dinosaur could just be a dinosaur.

Carter still loves to play with swords and every once in a while he wants to go to visit Kipp in California, because he knows he has a real Japanese sword, that he is dying to see and hold.

We now love the fact that boys will be boys and they will just do what they are born to do, just like our little warrior princesses. :)

Rainy Day

It has rained quite a bit here lately. One day we were driving through the rain and Matt drove through a large puddle of water. The water splashed high above the Suburban. The kids all screamed in excitement. Mason then says, "Daddy cannonbomb, toty (totally) wicked!" We all busted up with laughter!

For some reason the kids have adopted the word "wicked" when they think something is really neat. Thanks Dash. :)
